چکیده

Fibrous bands have been described in the elastic (conducting) pulmonary arteries in 38 cases at necropsy, which represents a necropsy incidence of 14.4%. The fibrous bands are considered to represent one of the end results of episodes of pulmonary embolism. The formation of the bands is described and their significance is discussed in relation to their haemodynamic effects. Most of these bands are the result of clinically silent emboli.

Pathology of pulmonary thromboembolism.

The incidence of pulmonary thromboembolism is hard to assess by the pathologist as a result of seasonal variation of embolism and disappearance of emboli by thrombolysis. However, the great differences in estimates of the incidence in routine hospital autopsies is mainly related to variation in scrutiny of the investigation and in size of area searched microscopically. Obstruction of major pulm...

Fabrication of nanostructured ZnO film as a hole-conducting layer of organic photovoltaic cell

We have investigated the effect of fibrous nanostructured ZnO film as a hole-conducting layer on the performance of polymer photovoltaic cells. By increasing the concentration of zinc acetate dihydrate, the changes of performance characteristics were evaluated. Fibrous nanostructured ZnO film was prepared by sol-gel process and annealed on a hot plate. As the concentration of zinc acetate dihyd...

The anatomy and applied anatomy of the mediastinal fascia.

It is common knowledge amongst thoracic surgeons that the pulmonary arteries and veins at the hilum of the lung are invested by fascial sheaths. The hilar bronchi, too, have tough fascial investments which are readily demonstrated during dissection pneumonectomy. Anatomical textbooks remain strangely silent upon the origin, and even upon the existence, of these fascial sheaths. Gray's Anatomy (...

Systemic vascular changes in spontaneous occlusion of the circle of Willis.

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE We examined the presence of systemic etiologic factors causing vascular changes in so-called "spontaneous occlusion of the circle of Willis" (cerebrovascular moyamoya disease) to determine whether extracranial, as well as intracranial, vessels are involved in this disease. METHODS Histopathologic examination and morphometric analysis of the extracranial vessels were per...

Pulmonary arteriosclerosis and cor pulmonale due to recurrent thromboembolism.

EVIDENCE has now accumulated that incorporation of blood clot into arterial intima might as well be a cause as a result of arteriosclerosis. Those who have studied large human systemic arteries from this thrombogenic viewpoint agree that all aspects of intimal arteriosclerosis including atheroma can follow incorporation of blood clot.1-4 Because red cell envelopes are rich in lipoid, it is sugg...
